Frequently Asked Questions
What driving roles are available at A C Goatham?
We recruit for a range of transport roles including HGV Class 1 (C+E) and Bus drivers. Most opportunities are full-time but we may have seasonal roles from time to time, depending on business needs.
What licence and qualifications do I need?
You’ll need:
- A valid HGV Class 1 licence (Category C+E)
- Driver CPC qualification
- A digital tachograph card
- A good understanding of UK road transport regulations
Do you offer development opportunities?
Yes. We are committed to developing our drivers and regularly support ongoing CPC training, safety refreshers, and role-specific training. Opportunities to progress within the transport team are encouraged.
What are the working hours like?
Shift patterns vary depending on the role and contract. We typically work a shift pattern of 5 on 1 off, followed by 5 on 2 off. We guarantee a minimum of 40 hours per week, with an opportunity to work overtime with clear scheduling and compliance with drivers’ hours regulations.
What types of vehicles will I be driving?
Our modern, well-maintained fleet includes articulated lorries, all equipped with safety and compliance technology.
Where will I typically be based?
Our fleet is kept at our Head Office in Hoo, just outside of Rochester. You’ll be required to travel to a number of our farms across Kent as well as our customers’ depots which are based around the UK.
What type of work does it include?
Naturally, the role involves driving. Our Bus Drivers are responsible for transporting colleagues between farm site accommodation and their place of work, as well as supporting shopping trips when required.
Our HGV Class 1 Drivers collect produce from our various farm locations and deliver it to our packhouses. They are also responsible for delivering packaged products to customer depots, ready for distribution to supermarket shelves.
Farm-based duties may also include operating forklift trucks, for which full training can be provided. From time to time, HGV drivers may also be required to support bus driving duties.
Does it include night shift work?
The majority of our work is day and evening based. From time to time, long-distance runs may require a night out in the cab, which we try to limit to once per week so the workload is shared fairly. A night-out bonus is paid for these shifts.
Is previous Bus Driving or HGV Class 1 driving experience required?
Yes, previous HGV Class 1 or Bus driving experience is required, depending on which role you are applying for.
